The Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung (HAZ), published by the Madsack Media Group, is the largest daily newspaper in Lower Saxony and also the flagship publication of the media company, which is headquartered in Hannover.
Publisher August Madsack founded the *Hannoverscher Anzeiger* in 1893, which became the *Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung* in 1949. The publishing house has grown into a media group with a national reach and approximately 4,000 employees, focusing on the potential of local and regional media. The company’s portfolio includes 19 newspaper titles in northern and eastern Germany. In addition to the HAZ in Hannover, this includes the Neue Presse. The group also publishes more than 20 classified ad papers.
Numerous online offerings, such as special-interest portals and mobile apps, complement the newspaper titles. The RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND) supplies several dozen daily newspapers with national news content. The media group is also active in film and television production through the moving-image service provider TVN Group. With several companies under its umbrella, Madsack is also one of the largest private postal service providers in Germany. The group is active in ticketing and corporate communications and operates the Madsack Media Campus, a training and continuing education center in the media sector.
The Anzeiger Tower, which publisher August Madsack had built in 1927–28 for his newspaper, is one of the most iconic buildings in downtown Hanover.
