Hanover from Above – Panoramic View from the New City Hall

Enjoy a breathtaking view of the city. From April through October, the unique arched elevator in the New City Hall takes you up to the dome.

What makes the curved elevator in Hanover’s New City Hall so special is that it doesn’t simply travel straight up, but follows the curve of the city hall’s dome. During the approximately one-minute ride, the cabin shifts from a vertical position to one tilted at a 17-degree angle, covering a distance of about 42 meters. Through the glass roof and a window in the floor that becomes transparent at the push of a button, you can experience this unusual ride up close. Once you reach the top, at a height of about 90 meters, an impressive panoramic view of Hanover awaits you—and on a clear day, you can even see as far as the Harz Mountains. This curved elevator, the only one of its kind in the world, is thus a special attraction in its own right.
