Hinüberscher Garden
The Hinüber Garden in Hannover-Marienwerder is a significant example of early German landscape gardens and was designed by Jobst Anton von Hinüber beginning in 1766. The 40-hectare garden, which today covers 20 hectares, is characterized by its picturesque features, such as the pond with its flower-filled island, the Quantelholz grove, and the Hexenturm tower. The park combines natural and designed elements and offers insights into 18th-century garden art. Visitors can explore historic structures and monuments, including the obelisk on Glockenberg and the Druid Altar.
Creation and design
The garden was created on wasteland near the Monastery Marienwerder and was inspired by English gardens that Hinüber had studied during a trip abroad. The design emphasized natural beauty and historical references.
Restoration and Preservation
As part of Expo 2000, the garden underwent extensive restoration, during which original structures and sightlines were uncovered. The restoration work included maintaining the path system and restoring monuments.
