Lake Hufeisensee is located in the Wietzepark recreational and leisure area. The park offers a wide range of activities for active, sports-oriented leisure pursuits. But you can also simply relax and unwind here, recharging your batteries for everyday life. The contrast between the natural areas and those designed by landscape architects is particularly charming. The region’s newest swimming lake was only opened in 2005.

Lake Hufeisensee Information Profile

The quarry pond has no inflows or outflows and is fed by groundwater. The pond was created during gravel extraction, which
continued off-season until 2014. The area surrounding the pond is characterized by farmland, including fields and meadows
.

The Department of Health, as the responsible authority, conducts regular tests of the bathing water at the swimming area
. The first water sample is taken before the start of the season. During the swimming season, from May 15 to September
15, samples are taken once a month. The water is tested for the indicator bacteria Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci. These results are published here and on the Lower Saxony State Health Office’s bathing water portal, among other places.

If the authorities become aware of a blue-green algae bloom, the water
is tested for blue-green algae, and an official warning regarding an acute blue-green algae bloom is issued if necessary. If large quantities of toxin-producing blue-green algae are detected, a swimming ban is imposed and announced both on-site and online.
