The routes

Route 1: Mountain range ahead

From Maschsee via Hemmingen to Springe
The route winds slowly upward toward the Deister, first through the lake district of the Leine floodplain, then through the fields between Hemmingen and Springe. But once you pass Völksen, the hardest part is behind you—Springe is just ahead. You’ll need a bit of determination! Along the way: Maschsee Beach, Ricklinger Kiesteiche, Strandbad Hemmingen, Chapel, Bürgerpark and outdoor pool in Arnum, mountain village of Lüdersen, Bennigsen Manor, Bennigsen outdoor pool, Hermannshof Völksen, Museum auf dem Burghof, bison enclosure, Saupark, and hunting lodge in Springe

Route 2: City, Countryside, Deister

From Maschsee via Ronnenberg to Bredenbeck (Wennigsen)
Ideal for leisure cyclists: completely flat. It only gets hilly near Vörie. Otherwise, the tour runs along the outskirts of towns—with the Deister in view. Along the way: Leinemasch, Kiesteiche, and the Ricklingen water intake area, Vörier Berg, the Holtensen nature trail, the Bredenbeck manor and grain distillery, and the Steinkrug glassworks

Route 3: Up, up, up!

From Lake Masch via Ronnenberg, Gehrden, and Wennigsen to the Deister
This tour is great for your calves—or rather, it strengthens them. Nature and art, steep climbs, sweeping views, and the final push up to the Deister ridge are the highlights of this magnificent tour. Along the way: the Ihme and Leine rivers, water art installations, the Benther Berg nature trail, the Benthe Landscape Art Trail, Ottomar von Reden Park and the Berggasthaus Niedersachsen in Gehrden, a monastery, a water park, and water wheels in Wennigsen

Route 4: Out into the countryside

From Maschsee via Velber (Seelze) and Lenthe (Gehrden) to Barsinghausen
. Flat and pleasant—that’s the route. It winds through the Calenberger Land, past knights and nuns, miners and swimmers. For those who appreciate the finer things. Along the way: Velber Holz, Velber Chapel, Lenthe Manor, Stemmer Berg, Großgoltern Outdoor Pool, Monastery, Visitor Mine, Coal Mine Park, and Deisterbad in Barsinghausen

Route 5: Open channel

From Maschsee via Seelze to Wilhelmsdorf (Haste)
: Experience industrial heritage, watch the ships on the Mittelland Canal—it’s a leisurely ride westward. The flat stretch can only get tiring if you’re riding into a headwind. Along the way: Marienwerder Monastery Forest, Junkernwiese Public Park and the Royal Crystal Spa in Seelze, trough bridges on the Mittelland Canal, Lohnder Meer, the late-Gothic quarry stone chapel in Dedensen, and the church in Kolenfeld

Route 6: Off to the sea

From Lake Masch via Seelze and Wunstorf to Lake
Steinhude. Starting out near residential areas, the route opens up beyond Wunstorf, and the view of the lake (which is actually a lake) makes all the effort worthwhile. The journey ends with relaxation along the sculpture promenade in Steinhude. Along the way: Marienwerder Monastery Forest, Junkernwiese Public Park, and the Royal Crystal Spa in Seelze; trough bridges on the Mittelland Canal; Lohnder Meer; the train station, collegiate church, and abbey in Wunstorf; the “Paula” windmill; the sculpture promenade; the Scheunenviertel district; Wilhelmstein Fortress; and museums in Steinhude

Route 7: Just follow the line

On the Leine-Heide Cycle Route from Hannover through Seelze and Garbsen to just past Neustadt
: a long tour through idyllic villages, with the Leine River at your side—this is how cyclists get to know the region from a whole new perspective. Along the way: Leine floodplain, Limmer Lock, Marienwerder Monastery Forest, Mittelland Canal, Garbsen City Park, Garbsen Switzerland with Blauer See beach, Ricklingen Castle, Bordenau, Neustadt am Rübenberge with Liebfrauenkirche, Landestrost Castle, Amtsgarten, Leutnantwiese, Historic Harbor, Mariensee Monastery, Franzbad Amedor

Route 8: Of aviators and moor spirits

From Lake Maschsee through Garbsen and Langenhagen to Wedemark and Elze
. This route, which winds its way around the airport and Moorgeest, demonstrates how industrial areas can be integrated with local recreational spaces. A long tour, flat and full of experiences. Along the way: Georgengarten, Welfengarten, Großer Garten Herrenhausen, Hainholz allotment gardens, School Biology Center, Mittelland Canal North Harbor, Kinderwald, Hannover-Langenhagen Airport, Bissendorfer Moor, Moorgeest, Mellendorf

Route 9: The rustling of the woods

From Maschsee through Langenhagen and Isernhagen to Burgwedel
. It’s amazing how green the paths are that lead north through the city. Wietzepark, Maspe, and then the Fuhrberger Wälder offer pure relaxation. Along the way: Sprengel Museum, Maschpark, Lower Saxony State Museum, Eilenriede, Zoo, Silbersee, Langenhagen City Park, Neue Bult Horse Racing Track, Wietzepark, Fuhrberg Forests, Fuhrberg Water Nature Trail

Route 10: Forest-Lake-Village

From Lake Masch through the Eilenriede Forest, Lake Altwarmbüchen, and on to Burgwedel
—forests and lakes are close to the city—then take the highway to rural villages—a flat route with plenty of highlights. Along the way: Sprengel Museum, Maschpark, Lower Saxony State Museum, Zoo, Eilenriede Forest Station, Altwarmbüchener Moor and Lake, Parksee Lohne, Großburgwedel Outdoor Pool, Springhorstsee, historic Engensen Stone Chapel

Route 11: More than horse and asparagus

From Lake Masch via Burgdorf to Hänigsen (Uetze)
A lush, shady forest lines the path all the way to just before Aligse. Then a town whose name ends in “Dorf” beckons. Here you can admire parks, art along the Burgdorfer Aue, asparagus beds, and horses. Along the way: Sprengel Museum, Maschpark, Lower Saxony State Museum, Zoo, Eilenriede Forest Station, Misburg Forest, Amtsgarten, and City Museum in Burgdorf; Teerkuhle Open-Air Museum and Hänigsen Post Mill in Uetze

Route 12: Rail cruise

From Lake Maschsee via the Anderten and Lehrte locks to Hämelerwald
: A trip to see ships, locks, and railways through Anderten and the railway town of Lehrte. Where sugar beets once grew, a park now delights visitors. Along the way: Engesohde City Cemetery, Eilenriede, Hermann Löns Park, Tiergarten, Anderten Lock, Hohnhorstpark in Lehrte, Waldsee in Hämelerwald

Route 13: To Kalimanjaro

From Maschsee via Anderten along the canal to Sehnde
. An easy tour through green woods and along the blue canal—then the potash slag heap near Sehnde comes into view as your destination. A leisurely detour to the eastern part of the region. Along the way: Engesohde Municipal Cemetery, Eilenriede, Hermann Löns Park, Tiergarten, Anderten Lock, Mittelland Canal, Friedrichshall potash pile, Wehmingen Tram Museum, Bolzum Lock

Route 14: Long-range view at 118 meters

From Maschsee Lake through Seelhorst to Laatzen
City Forest, the Expo grounds, Kronsberg, and the Park of the Senses are the highlights of the tour—a relaxing outing for anyone looking to slow down a bit.Along the way: Maschsee, Eilenriede, Seelhorst Forest, Seelhorst Cemetery, Buddhist Pagoda, Gardens in Transition, EXPO grounds, Kronsberg, Park of the Senses, Bockmerholz

Route 15: Against the current 

From Maschsee along the Leine-Heide Cycle Route through Hemmingen, Laatzen, and Pattensen to Nordstemmen
. The route winds its way upstream along the Leine, passing from one natural habitat to the next. This is the Nature Tour. It also takes you to the splendor of the Guelph dynasty at Marienburg. Along the way: Maschsee, Park der Sinne, Koldinger Lakes, Ruthe, Marienburg

At the regional border, all 15 routes are connected by the approx. 280 kilometer long RegionsRing and can thus be combined with each other to create new routes.

The Green Ring
All 15 routes also cross the Green Ring. It circles the state capital of Hannover for a total of 160 kilometers and passes through nine other cities and towns. Blue posts and other landmarks mark the way. Learn more here

Deister
Cycle Route This bike path is another classic. It winds its way for 80 kilometers around the 405-meter-high mountain range in the southwest of the Region Hannover. Learn more here.
