Cultural route

Along this approximately 800-kilometer-long cultural route, you can explore a wide variety of culturally significant sites in and around the state capital of Hannover by bike.

Fagus Factory in Alfeld

The 800-kilometer "Cultural Route" follows the existing network of bike paths and connects the cultural attractions and offerings in the Greater Hannover Economic Area. Destinations include the royal seat of Celle, the medieval monasteries of Loccum and Walsrode, the UNESCO World Heritage sites of the Fagus Factory in Alfeld and the Cathedral and St. Michael’s Church in Hildesheim, the Mausoleum in Stadthagen, the Sprengel Museum of Modern Art, and the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen in Hannover. But the Pied Piper Open-Air Festival in Hamelin, the Cathedral Festival in Bad Gandersheim, Rausch SchokoLand in Peine, and the Walsrode World Bird Park are also stops along the route. The “Culture Route” is divided into 15 day stages, all of which have start and finish points accessible by public transportation. The long-distance bike route runs from Hannover via Hildesheim, Bad Gandersheim, Elze, Hamelin, Stadthagen, Neustadt am Rübenberge, Schwarmstadt, Celle, and back to Hannover. Nienburg/Weser, Walsrode, Peine, as well as the Bergen-Belsen and Ahlem (Hannover) memorial sites are connected via alternative and supplementary routes (see overview map).
