Exploring Hanover's Sights on Two Wheels

Starting at the main train station, the 24-kilometer tour takes you to selected sights. It complements the “Roter Faden” (Red Thread), a 4.2-kilometer route for pedestrians that leads through the city center to notable landmarks. The tour begins at the tourist information office (Ernst-August-Platz, across from the main train station), then winds through Hanover’s Eilenriede City Forest to the Erlebnis-Zoo. The route follows the Julius-Trip-Ring to the Bischofshol beer garden (time for a first break).

The Döhren Tower, Maschsee, the stadium, the Ihme River, and the lively Linden neighborhood are all along the way. Cross the Dornröschen Bridge to reach the Herrenhausen Gardens: With the royal Great Garden and the newly renovated water feature, it’s an easy ride to the Wilhelm Busch Museum, the Leibniz Temple, and the banks of the Leine River with Niki de Saint Phalle’s “Nanas.”

Next up is the New City Hall, with its famous arched elevator and magnificent panoramic view of the city, the stadium, and Lake Maschsee. The varied tour ends back at the Tourist Information Center, after taking in the stock exchange, shopping experiences, and the opera house. Along the route, there are plenty of opportunities to take a break or stop for a bite to eat.

The most important destinations on this route are listed again:
