Cycling in Hanover
Route 6: Julius-Trip-Ring
Julius Trip (1857–1907) served as Hannover’s first city director of parks from 1897 to 1907.
In his role, he established an independent parks department that continues to operate to this day. During his tenure, Julius Trip created numerous new green spaces of various kinds. These included city squares, parks such as Maschpark and Vordere Eilenriede, cemeteries, and playgrounds and sports fields. From the very beginning, he was deeply committed to the maintenance and development of the city’s entire green infrastructure. This included the planting of street trees, the creation of school and community gardens, the design of ornamental squares, and the promotion of private gardening. If Hannover can confidently call itself a “City of Gardens” today, this is due in no small part to the formative influence of Julius Trip. The bike path around Hannover’s city center aims to commemorate his work and bring to life the diverse green spaces that have emerged in Hannover since his time, along the 25-kilometer-long, marked circular bike route. We hope you enjoy exploring and relaxing on this circular bike route!
