Whether it’s for commuting to work, going to school, running errands, or simply for leisure—cycling is more popular than ever. That’s exactly where the STADTRADELN challenge comes in: Hannover is participating again in 2026 and invites everyone to join together in promoting sustainable mobility.
21 days for more climate protection
From May 31 to June 20, 2026, it's time to get back on your bike and collect kilometers!
CITY CYCLING is an international competition organized by Climate Alliance, which involves teams cycling as many everyday journeys as possible in a climate-friendly way over 21 days, thus collecting kilometers and saving CO₂ for their own municipality and team.
Whether you’re running alone or as part of a team, every kilometer counts for Hannover, for your own team, and for climate protection. Registration for teams and individuals is now open and will remain so until June 20, 2026.
How CITY CYCLING works
CITY CYCLING is more than just a competition: it is a movement. Companies, schools, clubs, groups of friends or families - everyone can form teams and compete together. The aim is to switch to bicycles as often as possible in everyday life and thus actively contribute to the traffic turnaround.
Kickoff at Maschsee: A Bike Festival for Everyone
The event kicks off with a major opening celebration under the theme “Bicycle Festival at Maschsee.” The Rudolf-von-Bennigsen-Ufer will be closed to traffic between Kurt-Schwitters-Platz and Geibelstraße and will be entirely reserved for cyclists. From noon to 6 p.m., visitors can look forward to a diverse program featuring activities, information, and hands-on experiences centered around cycling.
A particular highlight is the ADFC bike rally, in which cyclists from across the region ride together to Maschsee in Hannover—a powerful statement in support of sustainable mobility.
