Deister

The Deister

The wooded hills and surrounding countryside are a perfect setting for cyclists and hikers. An annual highlight: Deistertag.

Birdsong, the rustling of leaves, enchanted paths—at an elevation of up to 405 meters, a wealth of experiences blending nature and culture awaits you. Time and again, your gaze sweeps across the vast expanses of the Calenberger Land or into the Weserbergland; time and again, picturesque spots invite you to stop for a picnic and rustic restaurants beckon you to take a break.

Here, the journey itself is a destination worth exploring, which hikers, walkers, and cyclists discover for themselves all year round. Day-trippers with picnic baskets feel just as at home as long-distance cyclists passing through. You can also easily cycle around the Deister in four stages covering a total of 80 kilometers on the Deisterkreisel loop. A set of four brochures and map sections provides practical tips and background information. They are available at the tourist information offices.

The historical treasures along the way enhance the experience in and around the Deister as much as you like. Impressive manor houses, beautiful village churches, and half-timbered houses bear witness to centuries past. Magnificent parks, interesting museums, numerous water and windmills, and the architecture of the Weser Renaissance offer highlights for the whole family. Barsinghausen and Wennigsen are known for their culturally and historically significant monasteries. And last but not least, the traces of coal mining provide an informative diversion.

Worth a visit all year round!
