Bicycle etiquette

Please note! For an enjoyable drive through the Deister and on the Deister roundabout...

Let's go!

The bike paths that wind through and around the Deister are just as varied as the landscape itself. This diversity means that both leisure cyclists and those with more athletic ambitions will feel right at home. There’s a trail for every type of riding here, whether you’re on slick tires or knobby tires. However, given the variety of paths and roads, cyclists should keep a few important points in mind:

  • Roads, dirt roads, and forest trails may be in poor condition due to heavy use. Please drive defensively, and if in doubt, slow down if you are unsure about the road surface.
  • Please use only the main paths.
  • On forest trails, be on the lookout for fallen or falling branches.
  • Farm roads may be covered with clumps of dirt, straw, and sugar beets.
  • Keep a safe distance from agricultural and forestry vehicles; they always have the right of way on farm and forest roads! Cycling on these roads is permitted, but at your own risk.
  • Please be considerate of other groups of visitors who are using the same paths.
  • Please observe warning signs and agricultural and forestry barriers; this also applies to hunting events.
  • Please keep in mind that different species of wildlife need undisturbed areas and quiet zones.
