The Deister Roundabout

The tour around the Deister, Hanover's "local mountain range," offers about 80 kilometers of cycling fun.

The Deister is one of the most popular local recreational destinations in the Hanover region. But the area surrounding this mountain range—which stretches some 20 kilometers and reaches heights of up to 405 meters in the Weser-Leinebergland region—also has a lot to offer in terms of scenery and culture. From knightly estates and monasteries to the charm of spa towns and relics from the coal mining and glass industries: you can experience all this diversity on a bike tour around the Deister.

The signposted Deister Circle connects the towns of Springe, Wennigsen, Barsinghausen, Bad Nenndorf, Rodenberg, and Bad Münder along its roughly 80-kilometer route around the Deister. To allow cyclists to enjoy the natural scenery and sights along the way without feeling rushed, the circular bike route has been divided into four sections of roughly equal length.

All sections are easily accessible by bus and train, so the Deisterkreisel can also be explored in stages. Visit www.gvh.de for information, maps, and tickets for your specific trip. The GVH app makes it easy to plan your trip on the go.

The Deister Roundabout consists of four sections

Route 1 runs for 22 kilometers from Bad Nenndorf to Wennigsen. Route 2 runs for just over 14.5 kilometers from Wennigsen to Völksen, and Route 3, which is 18.5 kilometers long, runs from Völksen to Bad Münder. Route 4, at 25 kilometers, is the longest and runs from Bad Münder back to Bad Nenndorf.

On the grounds of the Barsinghausen visitor mine stands a small, very compact rail vehicle designed for underground use. A black freight car is coupled to the rear of the yellow locomotive.
