Recommended Route: Bad Münder to Bad Nenndorf

From spa town to spa town

The Hoppenmarkt in Bad Münder

The starting and ending points of this tour are all about healing minerals. These geological treasures have helped establish a long tradition of spa treatments in Bad Münder and Bad Nenndorf. But it’s not just the wellness aspect of these towns that makes this 25-kilometer tour such an experience…

Start early enough, as you’ll want to spend some time exploring the sights of Bad Münder first. Stroll through the spa gardens with their Gradierwerk and enjoy the soothing brine-air! Leave Bad Münder heading north. Follow the B 442 for a short while until you turn toward Nettelrede.

Watch: The Protestant church in Nettelrede with its stepped gable. In 1863, Conrad Wilhelm Hase, founder of the Hannover School of Architecture, rebuilt the structure in the Neo-Gothic style.

"Steinriepen" Arboretum in Nettelrede

Just above the villages of Nettelrede and Luttringhausen, you can take a detour to the "Steinriepen" Arboretum, which was established over 25 years ago. Here, on approximately 11,000 square meters, the Süntel beech trees—a fascinating regional specialty—are being preserved for the long term.

After the Deisterkreisel loop, there is a 1-kilometer climb, followed by a descent to Eimbeckhausen.

Here you will find the German Chair Museum, which commemorates the chair industry that began in the Deister-Süntel region in 1820.

The route continues toward Hülsede, where part of the moated castle is open to visitors. If you’re looking for a challenge, take the alternative route from Eimbeckhausen to Messenkamp. This section features several climbs—you’ll need to be in good shape and be prepared to tackle some rugged dirt roads! Just before Lauenau, the main route and the alternative route rejoin.

Break: Lauenau Castle, Schwedesdorf Castle, and Meysenbug Castle—Lauenau boasts three impressive stately homes. Perhaps this splendor will inspire you to take a short stroll before enjoying a freshly tapped Rupp-Bräu in the Felsenkeller.

There are two options to start the second leg of the route: You can either cycle through Apelern, where two noble estates and an early-Gothic hall church await you, or you can take the direct route to Rodenberg. The town, after which the joint municipality is named, is full of reminders of its 1,000-year history.

Final stop: Bad Nenndorf is just a stone's throw away. However, the spa town's wellness offerings make it tempting to extend your stay…
