Gipfelstürmer ahead!

The Nordmann Tower

The Barsinghausen neighborhoods of Bantorf, Hohenbostel, Kirchdorf, and Egestorf, along with the town center of Barsinghausen itself, nestle against the northern slope of the Deister, making them excellent starting points for exploring the forested ridge by bike. The many forest restaurants at the edge of the woods are ideal as the starting and ending points for a tour.

An ambitious challenge is crossing the Deister on the L 401, which runs from Egestorf over the Nienstedter Pass into the Sünteltal valley. The pass reaches an elevation of 277 meters. With a modern gear system and a little patience, the climb shouldn’t pose any problems
. If you do have to push your bike at times, the fresh forest air will quickly get you back in shape. Once you arrive in Eimbeckhausen, the tour can continue on the south side of the Deister.

Break: If you’ve climbed the Nienstedter Pass, we recommend stopping for a break at the Nordmannsturm, which is easily accessible via the Kammweg trail. In the other direction, you’ll reach the Bröhn, the Deister’s highest peak at 405 meters. Right next door is the Annaturm; there’s a restaurant there as well.

The Deister Ridge isn’t just accessible via the main road. If you’d rather avoid paved roads, you can also tackle the climb via forest trails that are more or less paved. A well-functioning gear shift is essential for this. Feel free to just follow your instincts! There are plenty of signs to help you stay on track.

One tip for the more athletic is, for example, the climb through the beautiful Bullerbach Valley. The tour begins at the Hohenbostel/Winninghausen S-Bahn station and leads through the Höhenluft neighborhood to the Naturfreundehaus. From there, the route follows the Bullerbach stream into the forest. The climb is sometimes steeper, sometimes gentler. At the Kreuzbuche, you’ll reach the Kammweg trail, which leads to the Nordmannsturm. There, at the highest point of the tour, the restaurant invites you to stop for a bite, and the tower offers a view over the Deister. From here, the route heads briskly downhill
along the Bierweg, past the Stern shelter, all the way to the train station in Kirchdorf.

Watch: Step into the fascinating world underground! At the Klosterstollen visitor mine, you can experience the rich history of mining in the Deister region through authentic demonstrations. The mine train takes you 1,470 meters deep into the mountain—where the temperature stays at 9 degrees Celsius year-round. For information and reservations, call (05105) 514187.
