New Dock for Water Sports Enthusiasts

A dock next to the "Neue Moorhütte" makes it easier for paddlers and canoeists to launch their boats and also helps guide water sports enthusiasts to less sensitive areas along the shore.

Environmentally friendly entry and exit points at nine locations

With this dock, there are now a total of nine official launch and landing sites for recreational boats around the lake. “We hope these facilities will lead to a decrease in the unfortunately recurring violations by water sports enthusiasts of the regulations in the nature reserves that run along the shores of Lake Steinhuder Meer,” said Regional President Hauke Jagau: “Many people who are surfing, canoeing, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing, or swimming are often unaware of the disturbances they can cause to wildlife.”

Regional President Hauke Jagau sets off from the new canoe launch site on Lake Steinhuder Meer.

To ensure that nature and the landscape are preserved for the future and remain accessible to everyone, sensitive areas—such as the shoreline zones—require special protection. A brochure published by the Region Hannover in collaboration with the German Canoe Association provides information on proper conduct on and around Lake Steinhuder Meer. In addition, large signs have been erected at the canoe launch sites to illustrate the most important regulations in the nature reserves. Along the eastern shore and at the exit to the Hagenburg Canal, signs bearing the nature reserve symbol—in addition to the red buoys that have been deployed—indicate the current boating ban.

The planning and implementation were carried out jointly by the Steinhuder Meer Nature Park and the Landscape Conservation Center of the Region Hannover.
