Vast open fields, wooded areas, small lakes, and mostly sandy soil make this an ideal place for horseback riding.
Circular hike around Meitze (13.1 km, 2 hours)
The route starts in the small equestrian village of Meitze, heading east from the playground. At the end of the paved section, turn left onto a gravel path that runs parallel to the A7 highway. Then turn right and cross the highway bridge. Next, take the first right; at the end, “climb” up a small sand dune on the left to reach the path leading to the gravel lakes, which you’ll follow along the edge of the meadow until the end. After that, take a footpath to the left back to the paved road. Turn right, then left until the second intersection, where you turn right. Follow a gravel path to the Wietze River, which you cross via a small bridge. Then turn left onto the willow-lined path along the Wietze. Turn left at the end. Here we cross the small stream again via a bridge. Then a short stretch of paved road, left, second right. Now a long, wide sandy path follows, inviting a brisk canter. At the end, turn left over the highway bridge, first left, right, and straight ahead to the outskirts of Meitze. Turn right again to return to the playground.
