Hunting Lodge Springe/Saupark

The hunting lodge of the royal family
The Hanoverian king had a castle built on the north side of the Kleiner Deister between 1838 and 1842. The royal family lived there when the court hunts took place.

The court hunts
The court hunting district was the Saupark Springe, which had to be surrounded by a 16-kilometre-long wall after a court ruling against the king in 1835 due to damage caused by game. Even after 1866, there were court hunts every two years, and Kaiser Wilhelm II in particular liked to come here.

The hunting lodge today
Today, the hunting lodge has been freshly renovated and its wall and ceiling paintings shine in new splendor. In the Imperial Hall, you can marvel at the original furnishings, characterized by the imperial taste of the turn of the century.

An interesting exhibition about native animals can be seen on the first floor of the castle.
