With its diverse network of bike paths, Lower Saxony offers the perfect terrain for everyone amidst charming landscapes. The 40 long-distance bike routes stretch over a total of 11,000 km, from the flat coastal region and heathland all the way to the Harz Mountains. The Elbe Cycle Route, Weser Cycle Route, and Ems Cycle Route—all of which have been recognized by the ADFC—form a particularly well-developed and diverse network of bike paths. They are among the most attractive and scenic cycling routes in Germany and are a popular destination, especially for road and touring cyclists.
With over 46,000 km², Lower Saxony also offers plenty of space for long hikes and trekking tours through nature. Whether in the lowland hiking region of the Nordpfade, the Lüneburg Heath north of Hanover, the Weserbergland, or further south in the Harz hiking region, there’s a region to suit every level of hiker.
