Burgdorf Horse and Pet Fair

The Burgdorf Horse Market, open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., offers a unique selection of items. In addition to ponies and horses, the market also features poultry, rabbits, hamsters, pet birds, fish, pet supplies, and many other items.

The Burgdorf Horse and Pet Fair is complemented by a diverse program of events. Look forward to the horse show and sales demonstrations of sport horses for all disciplines presented by the Burgdorfer Pferdeland Association, historical exhibitions, demonstrations of traditional crafts, information booths, and the “Land & Garden” exhibition.

There’s no shortage of entertainment either: duck races, raffles, hands-on activities, street performers, and other program highlights ensure a varied lineup of entertainment. For children, there are activities organized by JohnnyB. in the Sparkasse Hannover kids’ tent, activities offered by Car Wash, and face painting by the Women’s and Mothers’ Center, among other things.

For animal welfare reasons, dogs are not allowed on the market grounds.

Rescue Organizations' Day of Action

One of the highlights is the 9th “Blaulichtmeile.” This event spotlights the emergency responders and rescue services that work around the clock to ensure the safety and well-being of the community.  Participating organizations include the local German Red Cross chapter, the Burgdorf Volunteer Fire Department, Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe, and the German Life Saving Association (DLRG). Visitors have the opportunity to speak directly with the people behind the uniforms and learn more about the diverse tasks and challenges faced by each organization. Experienced emergency responders will be on hand to answer questions, explain their work, and demonstrate their equipment.  This offers a special glimpse into the daily lives of emergency responders. In addition, there will be a vehicle exhibition where visitors can admire the various emergency vehicles up close. 

Exhibition of Historic Firefighting Equipment
Visitors will also experience an exhibition by the Historic Firefighting Unit of the Burgdorf Volunteer Fire Departments, which has been led by Jörg Neitzel for the past two years. Since 1976, the unit has been dedicated to preserving firefighting traditions and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The group consists of active and retired members of the local fire departments, as well as members of their senior divisions, and is an independent division of the Burgdorf City Fire Department. Through numerous demonstrations and exhibits, the unit presents historic hand-pump fire engines from the 19th century and impressively demonstrates how firefighting worked in earlier times. At the show, which runs from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Pferdemarkt grounds, the Historic Fire Brigade will showcase pumps from Beinhorn, Dachtmissen, and Burgdorf, which remain in working order thanks to the care of its members.
At their mobile information booth, the Burgdorf Hunting Association will provide insight into their activities and offer information on nature conservation, wildlife, ecological relationships, and hunting practices. They will also display fascinating taxidermy specimens from the local wildlife.

VVV Wood-Fired Oven with Fresh Bread 

For the last time this season, the VVV Bockwindmühle Working Group will light the fire in its wood-fired oven and treat visitors to freshly baked, fragrant bread made right there on site.

Attractive children's program

JohnnyB. is organizing a hands-on circus in the children’s tent at Sparkasse Hannover and Car Wash (Lise-Meitner-Straße 10).  There, children will have the chance to try out various circus activities for themselves and playfully immerse themselves in the world of acrobatics. Face painting will be available at the Women’s and Mothers’ Center booth. The VVV-JuniorClub invites visitors to participate in hands-on activities at its booth.  The team from the Reit- und Voltierverein an der Aue is also there for the youngest visitors, offering pony rides. The City Youth Welfare Service has its own booth and provides information on “children’s rights.” A giant bounce house encourages children to jump and play to their hearts’ content, while the children’s carousel ensures cheerful rides around and around.

Street Music Festival with the “Jazzmobil”

Before or after the horse and hobby animal market, it’s worth taking a stroll through downtown. There, a number of businesses have once again joined forces for another “City Saturday” and invite you to enjoy a leisurely shopping trip with fun activities and an entertaining program.  In addition, the Burgdorf Association for Art and Culture is hosting a street music festival featuring “Jazzmobil” starting at 10:00 a.m. The popular mobile trio will charm its way into the hearts of its audience with wit and flair, performing throughout the city center and at the Horse and Pet Market. Flexible and with that certain something extra: Whether it’s pop or swing, old hits to sing along to, instrumental or with vocals—the passionate musicians Dirk Kalbitzer (percussion/drums), Ute Mark (trombone), and Penny Simms (accordion/vocals) from Jazzmobil deliver, with their wide-ranging repertoire, just the right amount of atmosphere to make the street music festival a musical treat.
