Großburgwedel Local History Museum - Visit Hannover

Tips and information

Home room

A living home in Heinrich-Wöhler-Straße.

The Heimatstube in Großburgwedel is a vibrant hub of regional history that offers insights into life in the Region Hannover in days gone by. Housed in a half-timbered house dating from 1828, it is part of the Gertrud Wöhler Foundation and combines historic architecture with museum use.

The exhibition spans the entire farm complex and includes both living quarters and former stables. Visitors get a vivid sense of the daily life of past generations—from the “parlor” and the fireplace room to the farm and work areas.

One focus is on depicting agricultural work and rural lifestyles in the 20th century. Historical tools, furniture, and everyday objects document the evolution of household life, crafts, and agriculture.

Furthermore, the Heimatstube is not a static museum, but an active cultural venue. Readings, exhibitions, and courtyard festivals are held regularly, bringing history to life and fostering dialogue.

By combining exhibitions, events, and volunteer work, the Burgwedel Local History Museum is an important part of the region’s culture of remembrance and a place where history remains tangible.
