Tips and information

St. Gertruden

St. Gertruden

St. Gertruden – One of the oldest parishes in the greater Hannover area.

One of Hanover's earliest communities

The first documented mention of a pastor at this church, dated August 9, 1250, identifies it as one of the earliest parishes in the greater Hannover area.

Architecture
The present-day building appears to visitors as a single-nave Romanesque structure from the late 12th century, featuring a facade of rubble stone masonry and a rectangular Baroque west tower dating from 1720–1725. Major renovations were carried out on the building in 1820–1821.
Medieval art objects in the interior (crucifixes, tombs) round out the historically evolved character of this expressive church.

Modern "renovations" have been carried out in phases since the 1960s, and especially in the 1990s, with the active support of volunteers.

Events and Exhibitions
The church regularly hosts cultural events such as art exhibitions and musical performances.
