Polocrosse, the fast-paced equestrian sport played with a ball and a mallet, has now officially arrived in Germany. In Langenhagen-Kananohe, in the Region Hannover, the Reit- und Polocrosse-Verein Kananohe e. V. was registered as the first club in the country dedicated to this sport.
Kirsten Breschke was elected club president, and Andreas Rieger serves as the polocrosse chairman.
The new polocrosse club has found its home at the Breschke Riding Center in Langenhagen-Kananohe, where ample grassy areas and an indoor riding arena are available for training purposes.
Polocrosse
is a dynamic team sport. Each team consists of six players, with three players and their horses competing for goals on a field measuring approximately 150 by 55 meters. The game is played with soft balls and a net-tipped stick, similar to lacrosse.
Just like in polo, players gallop at high speeds, pressuring opponents and riding aggressively. In principle, any horse breed can be used. In practice, however, and by international standards, fast, agile, and composed horses are particularly well-suited for polocrosse. The advantage over polo: each player needs only one horse per game.
This equestrian sport, which is still relatively unknown in Germany, originated in Australia. From there, polocrosse has spread to almost every corner of the world. Riders from the Region Hannover also took notice of polocrosse and began to champion the sport. The members of the Reit- und Polocrosse-Vereins Kananohe e. V. have been training regularly at the Breschke Farm in Kananohe for about three years. In September 2007, the club achieved its first international tournament successes at a qualifying event in the Netherlands. With suitable horses, qualified instruction, and dedicated tournament activities, the young club now aims to promote polocrosse in Germany.
Trial Session “Anyone
who wants to learn polocrosse and play with us is welcome to join our trial session on Wednesday evening,” say Kirsten Breschke and Andreas Rieger.
