For centuries, the estate was the lifeblood of the Haus Rethmar manor. Income from agriculture and forestry contributed to the prestige and wealth of its builders. Until the 1980s, the manor, castle, and estate formed a single entity. With the sale of the castle in 1987 and the partial divestment of the agricultural operations in 1999, the way was clear to give the farmstead a new look.
For over two hundred years, grain was threshed at the Korn estate; horses called this place home, and many a piece of iron was forged in the smithy.
On the ground floor of the old smithy—which the Digwa family rebuilt using original building materials—a restaurant, a cozy pub, and a hall known as the “Knights’ Hall” have been created. In the basement, there is a sports area where you can play skittles, bowling, darts, billiards, and table soccer.
Theater and Music in the Granary
The former granary has been converted into the “Theater im Speicher” and now hosts theater performances, variety shows, and musical events. You can also use the space for your own celebrations. The local history museum has found a home in the former horse stable, and the Coachmen’s Hall has been created there. Office spaces will be built above these rooms.
As much as possible, the historic architectural features have been preserved during new construction and renovations on the estate grounds, such as the porthole windows in the former horse stable.
A barbecue pavilion has been built on the farm and is used during farm festivals.
There is also a playground on the grounds, and a bouncy castle is set up during festivals.
The Manor Park
The Manor Park completes the grounds.
With its 200-year-old trees and pond, it invites visitors to take a stroll and linger.
