Pure nature: Hiking and biking in the Deister
If you enjoy spending time outdoors or just want to unwind, the Deister, Lake Steinhuder Meer, and the many other local recreation areas in the Hannover Holiday Region are the perfect places for you!
Lower Saxony’s largest lake, Lake Steinhuder Meer, is a popular destination for sailors, surfers, kite surfers, and swimmers. Tourists sail to Wilhelmstein Island on historic sailboats known as the “Auswanderer.” Along the 35-kilometer circular trail, observation towers offer fantastic panoramic views.
Horse lovers will find their paradise in the Burgdorf region and in Wedemark—whether on their own horse, a rental horse, or enjoying a ride in a horse-drawn carriage. Hikers are drawn to the 405-meter-high Deister with its lush greenery and many historical treasures. Just outside the state capital, local recreational areas such as the Koldinger Lakes, Wietzepark in Isernhagen and Langenhagen, and Altwarmbüchener Lake delight the senses.
Like a distant fairytale castle, Marienburg Castle sits atop a hill near the town of Pattensen. The last summer residence of the Guelph kings of Hannover commands a view that stretches far across the Calenberger Land. Guided tours offer fascinating glimpses behind the scenes. During the summer months, the program features live music and theater performances.
Here you can immerse yourself in the beautiful natural and cultural landscapes of the Hannover Holiday Region.
