From August 27 to September 2, 2026, the cultural triangle surrounding Opernplatz, the Schauspiel Hannover, and the Künstlerhaus will be transformed into a lively gathering place for culture lovers. Discover classic films under the open sky, enjoy concerts, dance performances, and interactive events, or wind down the evening in a relaxed atmosphere on your picnic blanket.
The festival brings together renowned cultural institutions, the independent arts scene, and visitors. This creates a special atmosphere in which culture can be experienced directly in public spaces.
Classic Movies Under the Starry Sky
Every evening during the festival, the Kommunale Kino at the Künstlerhaus presents a varied open-air film program on a large LED screen. Under the motto “Bring your seat & meet!”, visitors are invited to bring their own picnic blankets or camping chairs and enjoy a movie together right in the heart of the city.
Highlights include, among other things:
- Dirty Dancing (August 27)
- The Melancholic Girl with a DJ
- "Skyscrapers," of all things, as a silent film concert
- Bodyguard
- The Rocky Horror Picture Show
- Saturday Night Fever
Music plays a special role here—from live piano performances to electronic DJ sets, every movie night becomes an experience all its own.
Festival Kickoff with "Musste Singen! Live"
Right from the start, Opernplatz will become a huge sing-along stage. In collaboration with the HAZ, the interactive event “Musste Singen! Live” invites everyone to sing along to well-known pop classics and current hits with a live band. Instead of just watching, visitors will become part of the program themselves.
One hour before the film screenings, VORSPANN kicks off the evening with performances, music, dance, and interdisciplinary productions. Artists and collectives from the independent arts scene showcase the diversity of Hannover’s cultural landscape and invite the audience to discover new perspectives.
Piano Music Meets Contemporary Dance
As part of the "HörMal!" series—which explores monuments and music in Lower Saxony—piano music and dance come together on Opernplatz to create a poetic performance. At the same time, guided tours offer fascinating insights into the history of this historic square.
Classical Music in Unusual Places
With "hell:wach," the independent classical music scene is making its way into hotels, stores, cafés, and public spaces. This creates surprising concert experiences right in the heart of everyday downtown life.
Theater, Opera, and Ballet Kick Off the Season
On August 30, Schauspiel Hannover, the State Opera, and the State Ballet will jointly open their new season. Look forward to guided tours, concerts, dance, talks, and numerous hands-on activities on and around Opernplatz, as well as at the venues of the “Kulturdreieck.”
Dance Takes Over the Urban Landscape
With “Choreo to go,” Hanover’s downtown becomes a stage in its own right. Local dancersThey collaborate with international choreographers to developa performance that does not require a traditional stage and allows audiences to experience public space in a new way.
Summer in the Cultural Triangle showcases just how vibrant Hannover’s downtown can be. Cultural institutions, creative professionals, restaurants, and local businesses come together to create a festival that brings art and community together. Squares, streets, and shops become open-air stages, inviting visitors to experience Hannover from a new perspective. Food and drink options right on Opernplatz are available to satisfy your appetite. The full program will be published in early August at hannover.de/cultural-triangle.
