Fragments of the historic city wall

In Hannover, remnants of the city wall can still be seen in a few places.

Loccumer Hof

The city wall of medieval Hannover is now visible in only a few places. One remnant of the wall is located near Georgsplatz, in a pedestrian passageway next to the Bundesbank. This remnant once ran through the Loccumer Hof, built by Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves. Another remnant is located in the “Rathaus-Kontor” building on Theodor-Lessing-Platz, where there is also a defensive tower preserved in its rudimentary form, the Borgentrick Tower. Next to the Beginenturm, a relatively large section of the city wall is still visible, as this section serves as the outer wall of the Historical Museum. Two additional sections of the wall can be found in a courtyard between Osterstraße and Georgstraße and in a courtyard between Friedrichswall and Ebhardtstraße.
