The Guelph Mausoleum is located in the Berggarten.
Mausoleum
The mausoleum was built between 1842 and 1847 according to plans by court architect Laves for Queen Friederike and King Ernst August. The building, which is owned by the Prince of Hanover, is not open to the public out of respect for the deceased. The building is rarely opened on specific days, and such openings are announced in advance through the press. The renovation of the Leineschloss in 1957 made it necessary to transfer eight additional royal remains to the mausoleum, including those of Electress Sophie and George I, King of England. The building is surrounded by majestic English oaks over 150 years old.
