Golden Leibniz cookie
Probably the smallest attraction in Hannover.
The two pretzel men with the golden cookie at the Bahlsen headquarters in Hannover.
The famous "Golden Cookie" is "only" gold-plated and hangs on the exterior of the Bahlsen administration building, which dates back to 1911. In early 2013, the cookie became famous worldwide when it was stolen in a cloak-and-dagger operation. The thief then contacted Bahlsen by mail while dressed in a Cookie Monster costume and demanded, among other things, that Bahlsen donate cookies to the children’s hospital on the Bult in Hanover. Bahlsen subsequently offered to donate 52,000 packs of cookies to 52 social institutions if the cookie were returned. The gold-plated cookie was found hanging from the statue of the Lower Saxony Horse in front of the Welfenschloss on February 5. The unknown perpetrator has not been caught to this day. Some time later, the cookie was hung back in its original spot.
