Hannover Central Station is classified as a Category 1 station, the highest category.

With approximately 250,000 passengers and 750 trains daily, Hannover Central Station is one of Germany’s largest long-distance rail stations. Hannover has had a railway station since 1847. The fact that the station was built as a through station was very unusual at the time. The current station building dates from 1879. In front of the station stands a monument to King Ernst August on horseback.
