Fragments of the historic city wall

In Hanover, remnants of the city wall can still be seen in a few places.

Loccumer Hof

The city wall of medieval Hanover can now only be seen in a few places. One remnant of the wall is located near Georgsplatz, in a pedestrian passageway next to the Bundesbank. This remnant once ran through the Loccumer Hof, built by Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves. Another remnant is located in the “Rathaus-Kontor” building on Theodor-Lessing-Platz, where there is also a defensive tower, the Borgentrick Tower, preserved in its rudimentary form. Next to the Beginenturm, a relatively large section of the city wall is still visible, as this section serves as the outer wall of the Historical Museum. One more remnant of the wall is located in a courtyard between Osterstraße and Georgstraße, and another is in a courtyard between Friedrichswall and Ebhardtstraße.
