The bust of the polymath Leibniz

The former summer residence of the House of Welf was reopened in 2013 as Herrenhausen Palace. It had been destroyed during World War II and was rebuilt on its original site some 70 years after its destruction. The reconstruction of the former summer residence of the House of Welf is a joint project of the State Capital of Hannover and the Volkswagen Foundation—and restores the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen’s architectural focal point. The neoclassical façade, behind which a conference center for the most discerning guests and a museum are housed, was designed by Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves. Among other things, the museum houses the original bust of Leibniz; a copy stands in the Leibniz Temple.
