Nahklang Concert Series 2026/2027

The "Nahklang" concert series presented by the Hannover Chamber Music Society features eleven concerts this season and will conclude in June 2027 with a summer festival in the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen.

The Avin Trio will perform at the 2026 Summer Festival in the Herrenhausen Orangery

About the "Nahklang" concert series

From October 10, 2026, to June 27, 2027, the concert series will present eleven concerts featuring renowned musicians and promising young talents in the gallery’s ballroom and the Herrenhausen Orangery. Tickets will be available starting August 1, 2026.

Since the 2020–2021 season, Hannover-based pianist Prof. Markus Becker has served as the artistic director of the concert series. “We look forward to a vibrant season featuring outstanding ensembles and soloists,” said Becker. “For nearly 100 years, Hannover’s chamber music community has combined tradition with a vibrant present, creating special musical encounters through ‘Nahklang.’ In the opening concert, the great pianist Christian Zacharias will perform an unusual recital program—chamber music for one, so to speak.  But we’ll also be hosting outstanding young talents. And the summer festival in June is sure to be the crowning finale of the season once again. We’re delighted to have been guests at the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen for many years now. The Gallery Building and the Orangery offer particularly good acoustics for our concerts. The ensembles and the audience feel very much at home here.”

Season

Pianist Christian Zacharias opens the season with an Austrian-French program that bridges the gap between the Baroque and the modern era. Works by Béla Bartók, Johannes Brahms, and George Gershwin for piano and violin will be performed at the concert featuring violinist Jaques Forestier and pianist Boris Kusnezow. The award-winning Poiesis Quartet will highlight the program with their commissioned work by Jeff Scott. Under the title “Heavy Metal—Renaissance to Modern,” the Stockholm Chamber Brass whets the audience’s curiosity for a diverse brass concert featuring compositions from various eras. Every fall, the ARD International Music Competition selects winners in various disciplines. Each year, the prize winners are invited to the Nahklang season to present an evening concert program in Herrenhausen. With songs by Johannes Brahms, Albin Fries, Franz Schubert, and others, baritone Rafael Fingerlos and pianist Markus Merkel explore the theme of “Foreign Homeland.” In cooperation with the KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen, the Quatuor Diotima ensemble invites you to an evening of new music by Steve Reich and works by Beethoven. Once again this year, the season concludes with a summer festival that showcases the winners of the German Music Competition and offers guided tours of the Baroque garden as well as expert discussions.
