The Lister Tower is a great starting or ending point for a bike ride through the Eilenriede.
The Lister Turm Community Center
The Lister Tower is located in the Zoo district, although its name refers to the nearby List neighborhood. It was first mentioned in 1387 as a watchtower for the Hannoversche militia. In the mid-19th century, the original building was demolished and replaced in 1895 by a Romantic-style replica designed by Hermann Schaedtler. In 1933, the tower served as an unofficial prison for the Nazis, and a commemorative plaque now honors the victims. Today, the Lister Tower functions as a community center and is surrounded by a beer garden.
