The special charm of the park lies in its old trees
Von-Alten-Garten
A large estate belonging to the von Alten family, located below Lindener Berg, was leased to the von Platen family at the end of the 17th century. Within just a few years, the von Platens had a Baroque garden—famous in its day—landscaped, featuring a central pleasure palace where the ducal court was a frequent guest. At the end of the 18th century, the estate reverted to the von Alten family and was converted into a landscape garden. After the palace was destroyed during World War II, significant portions of it were opened to the public as a park featuring playgrounds and lawns. The park’s special charm lies in its old trees. In 1997, the City of Hanover acquired the last private section, which had previously been inaccessible. Following its redevelopment, this section is now a quiet retreat for all visitors, featuring old trees and woody perennials; it remains closed at night.
