Public art has a long tradition and is highly valued in Hanover: Over the decades, more than 200 sculptures and installations have been placed throughout the city. Hardly any other German city boasts such a high concentration of artistic works. As one of the first German municipalities, the capital of Lower Saxony specifically brought contemporary art into public spaces from 1969 to 1974 through its “Street Art Program.” In doing so, it took a step that garnered nationwide attention and holds significant art-historical importance. Further innovative art and exhibition projects with international artists followed: “Bis jetzt,” “Im Lärm der Stadt,” the “Busstops,” and the “Skulpturenmeile,” which has grown over many years.

On this art tour through the Old Town, you’ll learn fascinating background information about the artworks, from “Lichtwolke” to “Diamant II,” “Mann mit Pferd,” and the nationally renowned “Nanas.”
