Marstall Gate

The Marstall Gate was built in 1714 according to plans by the architect Remy de la Fosse and originally adorned the entrance to the “Alter Marstall” riding hall. It bears the coat of arms of King George I of Hanover-England, who had ascended the throne in the year it was built. It was not until 1967 that the gate was moved to its current location.

French architect Remy de la Fosse was the designer of the Marstalltor. The stone archway built in 1714 originally decorated the entryway of the "Alter Marstall", the old riding hall. It features the coat of arms of Hanoverian-British King George I, who acceded to the throne in the year the gate was built. Only in 1967, the gate was moved to its current location next to the Historisches Museum.
