Friederikenschlösschen

Construction of the Friederikenschlösschen began in 1803 under Carl I of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen. In 1817, Georg Laves completed the building in the Romantic-Classical style for Count Carl von Alten. In 1966, the Friederikenschlösschen was demolished to make way for a planned new building. However, this project has not yet been realized.

Information in English

The Friederikenschlösschen Palace once stood on the island in the Leine River near today’s Waterlooplatz, but was demolished to make way for a planned new building that was never constructed. Begun by Carl I of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen in 1803, Georg Laves completed it in 1817. The palace, built in the Romantic-Classical style, served as the residence of Carl von Alten, and in 1841, King Ernst August intended to give it to his wife Friederike, though she died before taking up residence there.
