Information in English

To commemorate Prussia’s victory over Napoleon at Waterloo, in which Hanoverian units also took part, Georg Laves had Waterlooplatz built (1828–1830). The 46-meter-tall column known as the Waterloosäule was also erected according to his designs. The square originally served as a venue for military exercises and parades for the soldiers stationed nearby. Today, the square is used for festive events, shows, and public viewings on a large screen.
