The main state archive of Lower Saxony was constructed between 1713 and 1721 based on a preliminary design by Louis Remy de la Fosse, with the aim of creating a building to house the archives from the Celle residence and the documents from the Calenberg archive. Today, the listed archive building houses approximately 41,000 documents, 40,000 meters of files, and 90,000 maps spanning eleven centuries of Lower Saxony’s history.
