Construction of the original Leineschloss began as early as 1637. Starting in 1714, King George I had the interior lavishly renovated. Between 1742 and 1746, the northwestern wing was rebuilt following a fire. Further significant renovations were carried out between 1815 and 1835 by Georg Laves. Among other things, he added the Neoclassical portico modeled after Carlton House in London. Today, Leineschloss serves as the seat of the state parliament.

Among other details, he added the classicist portico, modeled after the one at Carlton House in London. Today, the Leineschloss houses the Landtag, the state parliament of Lower Saxony.
