Architectural Guide to Hannover

An architectural guide by Hanover residents Zvonko Turkali and Jens Broszeit for architecture enthusiasts, Hanover residents, and tourists.

Architectural Guide to Hannover

From the residence of the Guelphs, Hannover developed into a modern metropolis, receiving a significant boost to its growth most recently with Expo 2000. This architectural guide traces the architectural history of Lower Saxony’s capital city through seven geographically organized tours, beginning in the Middle Ages and continuing through to the present day.

The more than 330 sites featured illustrate the diversity of Hanover’s architecture: medieval defensive towers are included alongside Baroque landscape gardens and examples of Brick Expressionism. One focus of the book is on contemporary architecture. For after the devastation of World War II and the attempt at a “car-friendly” redesign, it is once again providing important impetus for the quality of urban life, and even spectacular buildings by international star architects can be found in the city.
