Heiligers Fountain
The Heiliger Fountain in the Eilenriede was built in 1794 to channel a sulfur-rich healing spring. The fountain was named after the man who discovered the spring, Ernst Anton Heiliger, a mayor from Hannover. The fountain also feeds the nearby Kopperloch, a historic bathing spring popularly known as the Devil’s Bath.
The sulfur spring at Eilenriede, discovered by Hannover Mayor Ernst Anton Heiliger, was given a square sandstone border featuring several inscriptions in 1794. In the early 19th century, the listed Heiligers-Brunnen was a popular destination for hikers. To this day, it continues to feed the nearby Kopperloch, a historic bathing spot popularly known as the “Teufelsbad,” or “Devil’s Bath.”
