Follow in the footsteps of the personal union and discover the architectural landmarks of that remarkable era along the architectural trail.
Then and Now: Discover architectural landmarks from the era of the personal union.
The era of the personal union between the House of Hannover and England lasted from 1714 to 1837. Numerous reminders of this special time can still be found in the cityscape today. Discover the many architectural landmarks of that remarkable era with the “Architecture Trail” city guide, created specifically for this purpose.
The work of court architect Georg Laves (1788–1864) in particular continues to shape the city to this day. The buildings and their connection to the personal union are described in a fold-out map available at the Tourist Information office.
Tip: The tour can easily be split into a downtown tour and a Herrenhausen tour and spread out over two days.
