19th Georgengarten

Here you will find information about the Georgengarten.

Construction of the English landscape garden began in phases as early as 1770—the Wallmoden Gardens served as its foundation. Beginning in 1828, the grounds were transformed into an English landscape park and named after King George IV. In 1835, Master Gardener Christian Schaumburg took over as director. Today, the Georgengarten is part of the Herrenhäuser Gärten complex.

Construction of the English landscape garden began in 1770, with the gardens of Wallmodenschlösschen serving as the core structure. Count Johann Ludwig von Wallmoden-Gimborn had acquired the gardens of the surrounding aristocratic country estates and combined them to form the "Wallmodengarten." Starting in 1828, the latter was redesigned as an English landscape park and named after King George IV. Today, the Georgengarten is part of the overall garden complex of the Herrenhäuser Gärten.
