5. Friederiken Castle

Here you will find information about the Friederikenschlösschen.

Construction of the Friederikenschlösschen began in 1803 under Carl I of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen. In 1817, Georg Laves completed the building in the Romantic-Classical style for Count Carl von Alten. In 1966, the Friederikenschlösschen was demolished to make way for a planned new building. However, this project has not yet been realized.

The Friederikenschlösschen Palace was once located on the Leine Island near what is now Waterlooplatz, but was demolished to make way for a planned new building that was never actually constructed. Begun by Carl I of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen in 1803, it was completed by Georg Laves in 1817. The palace, built in the Romantic-Classical style, served as the residence of Carl von Alten, and in 1841, King Ernst August intended to give it to his wife Friederike, though she died before she could take up residence there.
