Information about the area: The Misburg Forest is first mentioned in a document from 1365, in which the citizens of Hanover were granted permission to cut peat in the marsh between Warmbüchen and the “Mudzborgher Holte.” The construction of the Mittelland Canal in 1916 drained large parts of the area. However, it wasn’t until after World War II that people could walk through the area without getting their feet wet, when the forest paths were filled with rubble, creating a slight embankment.
