Here you will find information about the Leibniz monument on Opernplatz.

Leibniz monument on Opernplatz

The gleaming golden bronze head of the polymath, designed in the style of a silhouette, stands 2.50 meters tall and depicts the binary number system on one side. Leibniz recognized that all numerical values could be represented using just two symbols, and his ideas were far-reaching: modern computers rely on the numbers zero and one for their calculations. On the other side of the monument, designed by Prof. Stefan Schwerdtfeger, Leibniz’s motto “Unity in Diversity” is inscribed. The 750-kilogram memorial, set on a granite base, has adorned the bustling and popular corner of Georgstraße and Operndreieck since 2008.
