It covers 640 hectares and offers Hanover residents 80 kilometers of walking trails and 38 kilometers of bike paths. There are 10 playgrounds, and around 90 species of birds call this place home. These are impressive figures, but they say very little about Hanover’s green treasure trove. That’s why the Hannoversche Allgemeine and the Neue Presse are presenting, for the first time, a book that describes the beauty and diversity of the Eilenriede.

We highlight the most beautiful running and walking trails, show you where to stop for a break, and share fascinating facts about the area’s history, flora, and fauna. Find out, for example, what the lawn maze is all about, where the bandit Hanebuth once wreaked havoc, and what the “Forest Children’s Playground” is. The guidebook includes a fold-out map showing all the trails and major points of interest.
