Writing and reading aids, books in large print or with raised-relief text—at the Museum for the Blind in Hanover, visitors gain a comprehensive insight into education for the blind since the mid-19th century. A total of 6,000 exhibits are on display in the museum, which is housed in the school building of the State Education Center for the Blind, constructed between 1912 and 1914. The museum itself opened in 1995 and, with its extensive collection, is one of the few of its kind in Germany.
