Description

Open-air theater – the Deister-Freilicht-Bühne

The Deister-Freilicht-Bühne owes its existence to Otto Backhaus, a former principal from Barsinghausen. In 1928, he secured the Klosterkammer’s agreement to make the site of a former quarry on the edge of the Deister available for use as an open-air theater. The theater opened in 1931.  Today, the open-air theater is organized as an active association. Over 700 volunteer members ensure the theater’s operation, which features seating for approximately 1,000 spectators. Each year, the amateur actors stage a children’s play and two plays for a more adult audience.
